Handling Vibration Problem of the Transmission System in Ball Mill

Introduction: During the operation of ball mill, vibration of the transmission system is a relatively common phenomenon, which worsens the abrasion condition and shortens the service life of wear parts, thus seriously affecting the grinding efficiency. Therefore, to take effective means to tackle the vibration problem is quite essential.

If the vibration is caused by worn pinion bearings, wear condition should be timely checked and a record of the time of bearing replacement should be kept so as to predetermine the next time for bearing change. In addition, by altering the activity of pinion shaft, the radial clearance can be observed.

If the vibration results from poor lubrication due to the slurry in tooth profiles, the machine should be stopped timely and gears must be cleared thoroughly. Precautionary measures need to be taken, too. Through porthole in gear cover the lubrication condition should be examined; if there is slurry leakage at the liner plate bolts, the machine should be stopped and rubber gasket should be replaced and bolts be fastened.

If it is tooth face wear that brings about vibration, the pinions should be changed to avoid damage to gearwheels. In production practices, in consideration of cost, we had better take the pinion down from the axis and after turning it over we can re-install it for another period of use.

With regard to vibration generated by transmission system displacement we should inspect the transmission system and put it right. Furthermore, anchor bolts should be regularly checked and tightened if found loose.

The unsteady rotation speed can sometimes lead to vibration because of short-circuit among turns. In that case, the motor should be stopped immediately. Since short-circuit among stator coils can cause instable rotation speed, the stator coils need timely check and the motor must be replaced if there is short-circuit.
